Chapter 5

I suddenly was on the defensive and not sure why. “Yes I took it .. along with the others in the room..” I took a deep breath maybe he hadn't meant anything by it. Sometimes I just got defensive when I was questioned. “sorry I meant yes I took it … its one of my hobbies .. is photography ...” I set down on the couch Jovi climbing in my lap sometimes the big lummox thought he was a lapdog.

I watched Jon hold up his hand in defense himself. “I didn't mean anything by it .. its beautiful you seem to have a talent for it. “ He set down in the chair across from me. “thanks for the use of the shower and clothes by the way...I hope your brother don't mind that I used the stuff in there...”

I shook my head “he'll probably never notice he only comes here when he wants to get away from his wife....” I wince remembering that it was all over the news that Jon and his wife had filed for divorce two years ago. “sorry...”

He shrugged “No big deal...”

I sigh feeling slightly bad but not sure what to do about it. I sit there in the quiet sipping my cocoa watching him sip his. Jovi got down from my lap and trotted over to Jon sniffing him then laid his big head in the singer's lap. “Jovi get over here stop bothering him..” I am shocked that my big baby is even letting Jon near him. He was a friendly dog but was rarely comfortable with strangers.

“its okay...” Jon stated as he ran a hand over Jovi's fur. “he's beautiful.... and I don't mind ...” He finished his cocoa and set the cup down on the coffee table. “I probably should head out …. soon... I have to find a place to stay for a couple days I'll come and get my ...”

I didn't know why I did it, I didn't even know why I said it. I cut him off “you don't have to go … I uh...I have a spare room... its nothing more than a single bed and a dresser … or there's the couch but you'd have to share with the Jovi...” I look out the window at the pouring rain. “I mean you'd have to drive clear to the next town to get a room .. and ..” I blew out a breath and just trailed off. He probably thought I was a complete dork but it was out there.

I could feel his eyes on me as I just rambled on a small smile on his face. He tilted his head at me and nodded “if its not a imposition ….I don't mind .. I don't really want to have to drive to another town then have to come back here to pick up my clothes...”

To this day I don't know why I offered the room to him, why I asked him to stay. But it started a change in my life to this day my friends say changed me. I finally relaxed a little around him as we talked. What began as a prank two idiot bullies pulled started a friendship that became more. As we talked it got later and we both went our separate ways me to my room upstairs and Jon to the small bedroom downstairs. I had to laugh to myself as I watched Jovi instead of following me up the stairs he had followed Jon. Maybe there was something about this guy that even my distrustful husky liked.
