Chapter ten

I was working at the shop when the phone rang in the back. It usually was someone calling in an order that they would pick up later on. Or to find out if we had a certain book. So when Jake called out to me that I was wanted on the phone I have to say I was shocked. I was more shocked when he said it was a guy. The only one besides my brother would call would be Jon. I answered the phone “hello?”

“uh Shanna is there anyway you can head home?” Jon's voice sounded a bit worried.

“Uh I don't know … is everything okay .. is Jovi hurt are you hurt?” I wondered why on earth he would be calling me here when he was only a couple blocks away if he wanted coffee or something. Or asking if I could come home.

“No I am not hurt yet... but I really don't want to get shot … “

“SHOT?!” My voice raised about a couple octaves at that causing Jake to look at me and Kari to stop in mid step.

'yeah .. uhm he he .. I think its your brother … he came into the apartment I was setting on the couch I don't think he believes me when I said who I was or that you told me I could stay here … could you come please... “ His voice held a just a speck of panic.

“Jon hand the phone over to Cal … its okay give the phone over to him...” I had to keep myself from laughing as it wasn't really funny. It would have to be tonight that this would happen. Not only would they know that Jon had spent the day with me but he was now at my apartment. I waited on the phone hearing Jon tell my brother that I wanted to talk to him. I looked over at Jake who had both eyebrows raised. I knew there would be questions later. Finally my brother came on the phone.

“Shanna?”

“Caleb what's going on?” I am frustrated I am supposed to be at work supposed to be getting my term paper done and I am trying to diffuse a situation at my apartment.

“You tell me... young lady I come to your apartment to check on Jovi and maybe crash for the night after a shift and I find some strange guy in your apartment... does Mom know..” His voice is angry and worried.

“Didn't he tell you I could let him stay there .. and he's not some strange guy .. okay he is but … CALEB don't SHOOT HIM … okay he is who he says he is .. I'll be there in five minutes don't do anything stupid...” I groan when he tells me he's not making any promises. “Caleb Micheal Reed … I am not kidding I will be there shortly do NOT I repeat DO NOT hurt him....” As I am ordering my older brother to leave my house guest alone I was untying my apron. I had no clue how such a nice day though it had it rough spots had turned sour so damn fast. I hung up the phone and turned to Jake “I have to go home...”

He nodded “yeah I heard .. what is going on?”

“I am not sure … my brother's at the house … and I guess he came off shift and was going to crash and ..” I got cut off.

“and found a certain singer sitting on your couch?” He folded his arms “I thought you told me there was nothing to be worried about ...”

I was frustrated and annoyed why did it matter who was at my apartment why did anyone care they didn't most days. Hell I spent most of my days alone yet suddenly I have someone who was at my apartment and its everyone's business. “THERE is nothing to worry about he's just .. its not okay just leave it alone..” I snapped. “I am sorry Jake but I have to go...” I grabbed my coat and my book knowing I would have to apologize later. I ran the full length to my apartment and threw the door open to see Jon setting on the couch Jovi sitting next to him and my older brother in the chair across from him in his uniform. His eyes fixated on the guy setting on my blue couch.
